Sumo is my favorite sport

I like watching Sumo on the TV. Sumo is a traditional sport and very popular in Japan. Sumo is a fighting sport in which very fat wrestler fight on the ring called "Dohyo."

Foreigners might feel strange when they see the Sumo wrestler's appearance. They are very fat. And their hair style is a traditional topknot called "Chonmage" and they only wear a small wrestler's belt called "Mawashi."

Sumo's rule is very simple. A wrestler becomes winner when he pushes another wrestler out of the ring or pushes him down on the ring. Sumo tournaments take place 6 times a year and each tournament is held for 2 weeks. A wrestler who wins most games is the tournament winner.

In the fighting sports, you may think that a big wrestler has more advantage than a small wrestler. But in Sumo, a bigger wrestler doesn't always win. Small wrestlers often win over bigger wrestlers by using their special techniques called "kimarite." That instant is very beautiful and dynamic and the audience is very excited.

By the way, wrestlers are split into classes by their wins and skills. And wrestler of the top class are called "Yokozuna." Now there are 2 "Yokozuna." But I'm sorry that both of them are foreigners. I hope that Japanese wrestlers soon become "Yokozuna."

I'm always looking forward to the Sumo tournament starting in a few months.
