According to an online research, Japanese women hope to marry to these kind of men:

1. Who is kind to her (24.7%)
2. Who think his new family is the most important thing (15.3%)
3. Who does not cheat on her (11.0%)
4. Who can listen to her and provide some advices about it(9.7%)
5. Who can talk to her about important things in their life (such as changing a job, buying a house, living with his parents, etc) before he decides by himself (5.3%)
6. Who earns good salary (5.0%)
7. Who can treat her parents nicely (4.7%)
8. Who says ok to her to work and understands her situation (3.7%)
9. Who does not smoke (3.0%)
10. Who understands her hobby and does not make her to give it up (3.0%)

I wonder how ladies in other countries think about the result.

oh guess what? On the opposite ranking (what kind of woman a japanese man want to marry?),
things about her appearance were on the top 10 such as "a woman who looks young" and "a woman who is beautiful". (I lost the link, so i don't remember the number.)
It seems that men care about his future wife's appearance more than women do. That was pretty funny to me somehow XD

On the line of what you have written, i think i would be like by 97% of the japanese woman.. ;-). Only 3% opting for 9th point will not like me.. :D, Just kidding I dont know about the prefrence of mens around the world, i stronly belive in the quote given my Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H): "A woman is married for four things, for her beauty, for her weath, for her social status and for her religion(how her religious conduct). Chose the last one, because the other three will ruin you."

Wow, Prophet Mohammad has left so many great words. The only Japanese phrase I have ever heard about marrige is that "don't get married to someone you love the best, but get married to the second best." :P I wonder how many people follow this...

Just follow these links and you will know his greatness: http://www.cyberistan.org/islamic/quote1.html http://www.themodernreligion.com/quotations_islamic.htm If you want to more about prophet or Islam, feel free to ask.
