It depends on your point of origin ;> If a person in the Northern hemisphere said that, then I would assume they meant their summer - July. However, I know a lot of Australians, who don't work in a global situation, would immediately assume December!

hmmm, that's interesting! how nice it is that they can assume I meant July. but if I hear anyone says summer, I would soon assume July... thanks for your reply :)
