Travel Stories/ historias de viajar

Hey Everyone,

I was thinking about creating a thread where people share stories about their travels or lessons they learned on the way.

Although my story might not be that interesting, maybe someone else can learn from my mistakes.

A couple years ago while on a study abroad in Sevilla, I was in a city near Gibraltar called La Linea.  I was staying in a hostel with my American friends.  I was too tired to go out that night, so I slept while my friends went out.  Around 1:30 AM I heard a scratching at the door.  I assumed it was just my roommates getting back, so I went back to sleep.  A few minutes later, I heard some more scratching and some whispering that I didn't understand.  Still very sleepy and not thinking clearly, I assumed it was my roommates again.  The third time I woke up, I saw two people sitting on the window in my room, looking in at me with a flashlight.  Fortunately, they ran off and nothing happened.  We had our passports, cameras, money, etc. in the room, so it was lucky that they weren't stolen.

In retrospect, I should have noticed that although we were on the second floor, the window could be easily accessed from outside of the room by climbing across a railing, and that it did not lock securely.  I could have tied it shut with a shoelace (for some reason, I happened to find one in a drawer in that room...)

I look forward to reading your comments and stories,
Joe

Me encantaria leer tus historias y comentarios,
Joe

Hey Joe... fun blog ! Well... My story happend uhm... some months ago. I went to a cabin in Mazamitla... a town near my city. I was there during 3 days with around 20 classmates. First day, nothing happend... the second one, I got drunk... lol, but it was fun cause I hadn`t been drunk before. I remember somethings about my first drunk, like I was talking with a juice ! º.º and I felt down many times... jeje. And third day I just was hung over :P. But that was fun and I will never do the same. I promise. Spanish Translation. Bueno, mi historia ocurrio uhm... hace algunos meses. º.º y me cai muchas veces... jeje.

haha Nice story ^_^ Uh... mine isn't really as exiting as either... I went camping with my uncle and aunt and my uncle (who likes to annoy me) was asking me the definition of an english word and I told him what it was... he said that wasn't right and we kept arguing... eventually I got mad and started to say "You know what? You're not the one who speaks English Fluently!!!" except in French so it was more like, "Merde, c'est pas toi qui parle l'Anglais fluemment." I totally forgot "fluemment" wasn't a word in french... or rather... "flu" in French is diarrhea >.< You can imagine how much he bugged me about that!!! He made up a song about it... >.<

hahaha, nice to hear your stories... Lost, sounds like you had an interesting first experience with alcohol but learned from it. Gugu, that's a funny story...yeah false cognates are tricky. A similar one exists between English and Spanish that my teacher told us about once: Spanish: 'constipato'(spelling?): congestion (like when you have a cold) English 'constipated': opposite of "flu" in French...

=D but I know what you meant XDD oh... and about travel stories, jaja, Lost's and Gugu's where very funny -_-' I only have stories about sun burn =P my skin is a bit clear... or whatever =P and I never want to wear sunblock XDD and even so!!! There's always a sunburn story about me =P =P and of course, all my relatives always saying: "Te pusiste roja como camarón!!" -- o como tomate... damn, hate it =P
