Simple Japanese Sentence

Posted 2006-03-22 23:06:06 | Comments (2)

As you know, a word order of English sentence is "Subject + verb + object", however, the order of Japanese sentence is "Subject + object + verb" and the subject is often omitted. This is kind of a big difference and confusing. For example, EN: I like dogs. JP: watashi wa inu ga suki desu. (watashi=I, inu=dog(s), suki=like) EN: I read a book yesterday. JP: kinou hon wo yonda. (kinou=yesterday, hon=book, yonda=read(past))

hi, question: why "kinou hon WO yonda" and not "kinou hon GA yonda"? Arigatou gozaimasu.

konnichiwa luca Wo and Ga are very tricky. that's really hard to answer >.< basically, Wo comes between an object word and a verb. (e.g. Hon wo yomu. Gomi wo suteru) Ga and Wa comes between a subject word and an object word (or a verb). (e.g. watashi wa hashiru. ) i think "suki(like)" and "kirai(don't like, hate)" are special. The object for those verbs can come with Ga. (e.g. watashi wa inu ga suki. kare wa neko ga kirai)
