Japanese has various word for a subject in addition to Watashi. Here are the examples: - Watakushi (わたくし) the most polite word for I, but people don't use it very often. Very polite people, or someone in a job interview or in some formal situation might use it. - Watashi (わたし) the most popular word for I. Mostly, girls uses it even if they are little. Some of the girls say and write Atashi, which sounds casual, but it means the same as watashi. Male adults use watashi too if they want to be polite and formal (like when they are working), but never say Atashi because it sounds too girlish. - Boku (ぼく) Popular word for "I" between boys. Most of the boys say Boku when they are little. Some of male adults use it too. it's not as polite as watashi, but it's not as rude as Ore. - Ore (おれ) Popular word for "I" between boys. Most of males use it when they are talking to familiar people. They keep using it after they become older, but it's not a polite word, so they don't use it when they want to be polite. If you say "ore" in a formal situation, you will be considered rude. If you want to make those words plural, just add "-tachi" at the end of each word: watashitachi, bokutachi, oretachi. *In a bussiness situation, you might hear "watakushidomo" or "watashidomo". "-domo" make it sound more polite, but it sounds too polite if you say it in daily conversation.
