I'll expand a bit here on my description. I originally became interested in all things Korean about 1.5 years ago when I saw a trailer for "Save the Green Planet". I thought the movie looked really interesting and immediately set out to find it and watch it. I had some trouble locating it, but ended up seeing JSA. This was my first Korean film that I had ever seen and I absolutely loved it. The story was so interesting and well told. At the time I was growing bored with North American cinema. Hollywood movies were overdone and ridiculously predictable. At around the same time I also saw a chinese movie called "Warriors of Heaven and Earth" where most of the main cast was dead by film's end. This would never happen in Hollywood. Not with any kind of frequency anyway.
The good experience I had with JSA led me to watching a lot of other Korean movies. I've got somewhere around 160 of them right now, and I've watched about 40 or 50, so there are still lots in my to-watch pile. I've seen a lot of the big ones, and a few of the smaller ones. So far I've liked them all.
In January I decided that I was going to learn Korean. I picked up Declan's Read/write software and taught myself to read and write Hangul. In April I met 이영준 and started a language exchange. I am pretty good at basic Korean grammar and my pronunciation is getting getting better.
In August 준 went back to Seoul and he introduced me to 전윤희. I have been practicing reading Korean children's books since august and learning some vocabulary. I need to spend more time memorizing words. I hope to keep learning over the winter and in June I plan to move to Seoul.
I want to attend Hankuk university and take English education. When its completed I'll teach at an institute. I plan to stay in Korea for a very long time. I enjoy teaching a lot and I am very excited to finally be doing this.
Back in Canada I'm working for a company building computer control systems for Oil Pipelines, traffic systems and water systems. Its fun, but not nearly as fulfilling as teaching.
I like to watch movies (everything but horror), read, photography, and cook. I think learning to cook Korean food will be interesting.
