Hi all! I'm a college student studying English in Japan. I've studied English for about 8 years though, I can't speak it well. So I want you to answer the following questions by text messages or Skype or in this blog. In return, I can teach you some useful Japanese expressions and interesting things about Japanese culture!
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
1. Where do you live?
2. How is the weather where you are now?
3. What is the most popular music in your country?
4. What is your favorite hobby?
5. What foreign languages have you learned before?
6. What things about Japanese culture are you interested in? For example, some Japanese festivals, J-pop music etc.
7. What do you want to become in the future?
8. Have you ever been to foreign countries?
9. Christmas and New Year's Day are coming soon, how do you celebrate the day in your country?
10. How was your year, this year? Was it good or bad?
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
1. Virginia, United States. Pretty near DC.
2. Cold and wet. There's been a little bit of snow, but mostly rain. The ground is still buried in leaves, and at this exact moment (about 8:00 AM), there's a light fog out the window.
3. I'm not sure how to answer this question. Whenever I want to speak of popular music, I just say 'top 40', which is a reference to the top music on the radio. I don't actually pay attention to what genre things are. I guess it would be made up of alternative rock and pop mostly.
4. I enjoy video games, and I also draw and write on occasion. Right now learning Japanese has taken on a huge role as a hobby. I spend more time doing that than most other things.
5. None! Or, well, I was forced into taking a Latin class ages ago. I didn't complete it, though, and Latin isn't so much of a 'foreign' language as a 'dead' language. So useless. So effectively, Japanese is the first.
6. It might be faster to list the things in Japanese culture that DON'T interest me. I'm interested in the music, the entertainment (from anime to manga to games to film, literature if I could read it), the traditions, the festivals, modern life. Better access to Japanese entertainment and a desire for self-improvement jumpstarted my attempt to learn the Language, but Japanese culture has always been interesting.
7. I would like to become a Superhero. Pending that, probably something involving children. I have a vague idea that teaching in Japan would be dream-like.
8. I haven't. I've barely traveled around my own country, and the closest I've gotten to another country was being in New Mexico.... heheh.
9. In the US, Christmas is a lot more important than New Year's, I suppose because of the countries foundation in Christianity. I don't know what to say that isn't common knowledge. Set up a tree, decorate it, put presents under it. String up lights on houses. Go visit your extended family, have a big dinner, give gifts. I've personally never celebrated New Years much. For other people, there are parties, and there are New Years Resolutions, which are promises to yourself about what you'll do in the next year. I don't know if we do anything other than that.. I know in Japan there's more to it.
10. It hasn't been that great. I won't elaborate on some blog, sorry ^^
Ta!
