Black hair

As you might already know, natural Japanese hair is black, but most of Japanese people (especially young people) are coloring their hair brown or lighter-than-black color. (I found an article tha says 70% of Japanese women are coloring their hair.) One of the reason is that they think black hair looks gloomy and out of fashion and adds them a negative image. Well, I love my long straight black hair, so I won't dye my hair anyway, but I just wanted to ask you guys how you think of Asian black hair. Does it really look gloomy and negative to non-Asian people too?

ARGH!! I typed a really long and thorough post but the page went down when i cicked send. here's my short answer: no, long black hair isn't considered unfashionable and boring in the US (it stands out since it's rare) but at the same time, few people would dye their hair black because it doesn't compliment many people as well as lighter tones do and because black hair doesn't have highlights the way lighter hair does.

wow i'm glad to get so many comments. thank you guys! hmm, it seems only Japanese young people think the black hair is boring. that's interesting!

Well actually I love Japanese black hair! And deep black eyes too. As I have blue eyes and brown hair I like the feeling of attraction of opposites, he he. Japanese people look kind of monochrome which is kind of cool really. Anyway who cares really. It's what's in yr heart that counts. :) So no, black hair is not gloomy. It is sexy. To not "beat around the bush".

Color contact lenses make them as if they have blue (green, light brown or purple sometimes...) eyes! It looks sometimes weird on some people, but as I can't stop staring them, color contact lenses may be a good tool to draw attention of the others XD

I think that black hair is very becoming on people with darker skin tones, and only very few with pale skin. If I could dye my hair black and pull it off, I would, but it wouldn't look good on me. There's one girl that I work with, though, she has black straight hair to her waist and very pale skin and she wears bright lipstick. By the way I'm describing her, it sounds like she looks awful, but she's quite beautiful and she stands out as soon as she walks into a room. Black hair is gorgeous and I don't know why someone would want to change it!

Suzu san, I agree with you. I think natural straight black is beautiful for Japanese women.
