Mexican Christmas !

Hey everybody!... I had not posted anything =S but since school is gone Im happier and with a little more time to post. Well... I would like to share you some of the mexican Christmas traditions (write "Christmas" is a little difficult to me jeje I always get confused with "CHR"  lol).

Last December 12th began the "Marathon Guadalupe-Reyes". < It`s how mexicans call the parties and festivities from December 12th to January 6th. On December 12th mexicans celebrate their most important religious icon: "La Virgen de Guadalupe" and they get together in her church to sing her. After that, mexicans begin the "Posadas", a tradition which take place from December 16th to 24th, and during those 9 nights... a home in the neighborhood leads a Posada, a different home everyday. There are "Piñatas" and a lot of mexican traditional food and drinks, like "Ponche" ... very delicious jaja (I use to prepare it at home )... umm and "Bolos" which have a lot of candies jaja and everybody sing the Posada`s song and some "Villancicos" (Christmas carols) like Noche de Paz.

Next celebration take place on December 24th, with the last Posada =( and "Noche Buena" (Christmas Eve)... this night mexicans meet the family and they have dinner. The most popular food eaten that night is "Pozole" (typical in my state: Jalisco )... "Tamales", "Pavo", "Romeritos"... and some of the drinks are "Atole" (really delicious the hole year). So, next morning, on 25th, children receive their gifts brought by "Niñito Dios" or recently by "Santa Claus"...

On December 31th, during "Año Nuevo" (New Year`s Eve) in Mexico families get together and have dinner... and at midnight jeje they start together the brand-new year. (personally is my favorite celebration during the "Marathon Guadalupe-Reyes... I use to visit my family in Zacatecas, Mexico =D ).

Last festivity takes place on January 6th... "Dia de Reyes"... when some children receive gifts, but most of them already received them on Christmas... and at home, at school or job... people eat "Rosca de Reyes" (some kind of bread)... which has some little miniature baby Jesus figures inside and the one who gets the baby in his piece of bread has to lead a party on February 2nd... when is common to eat "Tamales"...

Ahhhh I love this "Marathon" jaja. Mexicans eat and drink a lot... and as usual we get drunk =S... lol. I just read that we are supposed to gain 3 kg during those parties ... jeje but food is delicious to resist !!!!

Hope you liked it, please leave comments or corrections, both are very welcomed as always =D .

Now, How about you? how do you celebrate Christmas` Eve in your countries?
